An Important Step for the Private Healthcare System in Romania

Cristian Hotoboc, President of the Romanian Association of Private Healthcare Providers – PALMED, was elected Vice-President of UEHP at the end of January 2025, during the meeting of the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) leadership held in Paris. This appointment reflects not only the international recognition of his contribution to the development of the private healthcare sector in Romania, but also a major opportunity to consolidate and modernize it at European level.

UEHP is the main organization that brings together and represents private hospitals at European level, playing an active role in promoting innovation, digitization and equitable access to high-quality medical services. The election of Cristian Hotoboc as Vice-President underlines the importance of the private sector in Romania in the European medical landscape and opens new perspectives for cross-border collaborations, investments and exchange of good practices.

Healthcare is a strategic field in which the private sector plays an essential role. My election as Vice-President of UEHP is a confirmation that Romania has a say in shaping health policies at European level. It is a responsibility that I assume with determination, with the main objective of improving patients’ access to quality medical services, supporting innovation and strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors. Romania has immense potential, and our active involvement in European decisions will allow us to accelerate the development of the private healthcare system and respond more effectively to patients’ needs”, stated Cristian Hotoboc, the new Vice-President of UEHP.

Through this appointment, Cristian Hotoboc will contribute directly to the promotion of initiatives aimed at:

  • Improving European legislation on private hospitals and integrating them into public health policies.
  • Increasing access to innovative medical technologies, by facilitating investments and implementing the latest solutions in private hospitals and clinics in Romania.
  • Promoting public-private partnerships, a model that can significantly contribute to reducing the gaps between Romania and other European countries in terms of access to quality medical care.
  • Increasing Romania’s attractiveness as a destination for medical tourism, a segment with significant development potential.

Cristian Hotoboc has extensive experience in representing the interests of the private healthcare sector and in promoting patients’ right to accessible and efficient healthcare services. Under his leadership, PALMED has become an important voice in the Romanian medical landscape, supporting investments in innovation, digitization and modern medical infrastructure.

Since 2023, Cristian Hotoboc has been a member of the UEHP board, playing an active role in developing European strategies for private hospitals. Also, in November 2024, he was elected Vice-President for Health Issues of the Romanian SME Employers’ Confederation, thus consolidating the representation of the health sector in the economic and administrative structures of the country.
